What up, Yogis? I've been lucky enough to lead classes at Makara Studio during their Friday Yoga + Food series. The congregation of Yogis, ready to end their week with a fun asana flow, then sharing of stories, laughs and chatter over a wonderful meal is a prime way to get in the community, meet people and find a spot away from home you can call "home." YogaCity NYC featured an evening with the homies at Makara a few weeks back. Big thanks to Jim Catapano for attending and the write-up. Read the story here: http://www.yogacitynyc.com/#!The-First-Friday-Feast/c1m6q/561a93480cf2c3576e58029e I'll be at Makara again on October 20th for some vinyasa, starting at 12 pm. Hope to see you soon, Victor

A few days have passed since The Yoga Room's house party event… and I'm still in awe of how awesome the vibe was and how stunning it was to see that many bodies moving, having fun and decked out in glow bracelets. On Friday, Dina Ivas, DJ Shisaa and myself, took over Workout Factory over in Long Island City, hosting an epic yoga rave. Pre-class excitement got into me as eager yogis filed in. As soon as the class started, we were all in our element. I want to send a big thank you shout-out to Dina Ivas for conducting the evening festivities with me. Massive thanks and a "BIG-UP!" to Anna Morgan -aka- DJ Shisaa, for cranking some dope beats on the 1s and 2s. For all the yogis that showed up… UNBELIEVABLE! All of you rock. We've already had a few attendees asked, "When's the next one?" We'll keep you updated on plans for another one. Here's a slideshow of some of the night's happenings: I want to extend a big thanks to amNY for promoting the event, The Yoga Room and Workout Factory for hosting and all the amazing participants.

Thanks to the peeps at The Yoga Room for featuring me this past Tuesday in their weekly teacher feature interview. Catch the full interview here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/the-yoga-room/teacher-tuesday-victor/897474776938842 You can catch me at TYR for hot vinyasa on Friday morning and Sundays. Check out my schedule here: http://www.yogawithvictor.com/schedule.html Peace & Love, V I was welcomed back to Intermediate School 204 the last few weeks for more yoga and meditation. Back in April, I introduced yoga and meditation to many students at that school, as part of the City Year after school program. This time around, leadership and development specialist for Beacon, Ms. Kaychell, invited me back. The students moved, breathed and relaxed their way into varying yoga postures. During the sessions, I grounded the students early in the practice, facilitating their active engagement in breathe control and relaxing the body and mind. We then moved into "heat building" poses to wake-up and invigorate the body. The ensuing poses were balancing asanas to dive deeply into their focus and enhance their body awareness. At the close of each practice, a few minutes of silence, in savasana (corpse pose), left the students in internal bliss. The smiles on their faces and the effort put into engaging in these poses were outstanding. The mats provided were cut out of fabric from MFTA (Materials for the Arts). Students from varying schools attended these sessions at I.S 204, including P.S 112 & I.S 126. I would like to extend a special thanks to everyone involved and to those that initiated these great afternoons. I'll definitely see all of you again in the Spring. Can't wait to see the staff and the students, and their beautiful smiles. Peace & love, Victor Check it out ... new business cards! I just got my new shipment of rounded mini-cards from the fine people at MOO. Time to cover the city with these bad-boys! Again, after peeping my home-girl, Dina Ivas' cards, I said to my self, "GET 'EM!" If you want to order a set for yourself, click on this referral link: http://www.moo.com/share/ptpnr5 That will save you 10% on your first order. Enjoy, Vic Check out Makara Studio's web-site for an awesome Q&A I had with them. I'm featured as the teacher of the month for July. Why did I start teaching? Who are my influences? When's your first yoga event? WHAT?!
Check it out here: http://makarastudio.com/about FYI: The Sunday Yoga at the park begins at noon, not 4 PM. The yogis from Cooper Park would like to extend a big thank you to the fine folks at KeVita Drinks for donating their time and incredible drinks for a great post-practice refresher.
Yesterday was another beautiful weather day that was the perfect backdrop for another Sunday of yoga at the park. FYI: we'll be there every Sunday, beginning promptly at noon (weather permitting). Down to Earth Market & Makara Studio will continue this joint effort through September 28. Again, props to KeVita; their drinks have all the benefits of probiotics for digestive and immune health, are non-gmo, vegan, organic, gluten free and are super yummy! Be sure to check out their site HERE. And follow them on Twitter: @KeVitaDrinks. See you soon, Vic Today, in association with Down to Earth Market & Makara Studio, we'll continue our joint effort to bring wellness to Cooper Park in Brooklyn. The market, which features seasonal fruits and vegetables, pantry staples, plants and other great items, will be open from 11:00AM to 4:00PM. Here's a Google Maps LINK for directions.
I'm proud to announce that KeVita will also be there, donating their Sparkling Probiotic Drinks for the yogis that attend. KeVita has all the benefits of probiotics for digestive and immune health, non-gmo, vegan, organic, gluten free and super yummy! The Yoga class will begin at noon. Bring your own mats, towels, water bottles -- friends & family -- and make sure to wear comfortable clothing. Try to get there 10-15-minutes prior to sign-up, as we'll meet in front of the farmers' market stand, or join the group of yogis with their mats rolled out inside the park. Remember, these classes are donation based, and will be weekly on Sundays (weather permitting) through September 28. I want to extend many thanks to the folks at KeVita. Be sure to check out their site HERE. And follow them on Twitter: @KeVitaDrinks. See you at the park, Vic What's up, peeps? Enjoying the weather? Holla' at me and let me know what's up with you… either stop by the Facebook page or drop me a message here on the site to see what's popping. FYI: Added two more classes to the schedule… Saturday June 28: Hot Vinyasa at The Yoga Room in Astoria: it's a community class, so it'll be $10 or you can use your active class card. Saturday July 5th: Hot Vinyasa at The Yoga Room in Astoria. The same story applies for this class. Both will be one-hour and begin at 4:30 pm. Major thanks to the AM New York periodical for picking-up and adding to their health calendar the weekly donation yoga class I lead on Sundays at Cooper Park in Brooklyn, in association with Makara Studio and Down to Earth Market. One typo though… it's not on Saturday. Here's a link to today's online edition of the article: http://www.amny.com/lifestyle/health/health-calendar-june-11-17-1.8399723 I'm so glad they've been promoting it. But spread the word… we hit the park up on Sunday. Hope to see you on the mat, Vic |
