The consistency we create for ourselves for self-care will go a long way toward determining how happy or unhappy, and how vital or how depleted we are. How we focus our mental energies and choose self-health will impact our wellspring of health. You will just keep growing.” As the weather gets colder and we begin to store away for the Winter and more time in stricter quarantine, we should become more introspective of our bodies & notice when the mental body imposes movements that may be 'right or wrong' or 'safe or unsafe' and go back to being curious, but still building trust. Allow your yoga practice to become an act of love -- build intimacy with your own breaths, pause to allow the poses to sink instead of "flowing" in and out of them haphazardly and allow the stillness to settle. You know you are embodying the practice if the mind is content and you are connecting to the 'now.'
Yoga is a wonderful invitation to turn inward, and gives us the tools to discover our inner wisdom. It is way more powerful, infinitely stronger to hold poses, practice with discipline, align yourself and become more aware of how we are moving, rather than thinking "fast" = power or that multiple chaturangas with poor alignment, or moving without awareness equates to a strong practice. It doesn't. And it shows in how we move and how we think we are moving. Commit to keep growing and learning about yourself... not repeating the same thing over and over and over. As we awaken... we get stronger. Hand weights are optional, and you'll get a cardio awakening in this up-tempo class. SCHEDULING Thanks to all who filled out the survey sent in recent weeks. The data collected was important in creating future scheduling and programming on the network. By a wide margin, subscribers have indicated that 7am classes are tops, while mid-morning slotting isn't desirable or likely to be attended. And we have seen that in the attendance. Moving forward, we will play with earlier starting times (i.e., 6:30am this week) and steering away from slotting that have not been well attended. As we get more subscribers and this network grows, we'll revisit adding more classes throughout the day. Please support our teachers by attending everyone's class and know that our efforts to create a functional schedule will be priority, but we also need consistency and the reason we create a schedule is so we can ALL have accountability, a sense of structure and normalcy during these days of volatility. JOSH: "Handstand is my favorite challenge, and I'm absolutely looking to advance my ability to sustain it." Q: How would you describe your classes? JOSH: "My classes are designed to create a space where students find the accessibility to face both the physical and mental challenges presented in a movement-based practice, while simultaneously providing opportunity to find calm and grace in the moment where it's hardest to discover." Q: What have you missed the most from quarantine lockdown? JOSH: "IN-PERSON TEACHING. I've found teaching to a screen is so difficult in that the shared energy of the moment is hard to access. That, and movie theatres. I really miss the movies." Q: Have you picked up hobbies/interests during lockdown? JOSH: "I am learning Spanish via an app! I've also been doing a lot more reading than previously, and am on-track to complete 30 books for the 2020 calendar year." Q: Do you like working out at night, or during the day? Time you like to practice? JOSH: "I find personally that I'm better served by getting physical in the morning hours. I'm usually on my bike for no less than 30/no more than 75 minutes every day by 8:30a, to be followed by a strength-training workout or an hour of asana (alternated daily) every day except Saturday - that's my always rest day, my sacred day of nothingness." Q: Standing one-legged poses or arm balances? Why? JOSH: "BOTH! Although, admittedly, balance is notoriously tough for me because of my genetic hindrance of flat feet. They both are exceedingly challenging in how they require the body to work, but even moreso, in the presence of mind required to not only execute but sustain the experience."
