“Step into the fire of self-discovery. This fire will not burn you, it will only burn what you are not.” — Mooji Before the word "Yoga" was used to mean spiritual discipline, the term tapas was used to express that same idea. Over time tapas has gained the connotation of asceticism or austerity. But its literal meaning is heat or glow. Through tapas, the solar spirit shines brightly through its physical body, which is our sun. Also through tapas, spiritual practitioners radiate the energy of wisdom and kindness.
Tapas [one of the Niyamas] comes from the Sanskrit word “Tap” or to burn, and is defined as discipline, or purity. Another study or interpretation is the “burning off” of any obstructions (from what's not needed in the body or hindering thoughts and patterns in our minds) which can stand in the way of our true self, our Yoga or union with the divine. Tapas is any practice that pushes the mind against its own limits; the key ingredient of tapas is endurance. The practice of Tapas must be sustainable; with a dedicated practice and a commitment to showing up. A decision to practice with complete dedication may be a great way to ignite your inner fire, but unless one has the commitment to oneself, about what we put into our bodies each day, and how we feed our minds, that fire will burn out as quickly as it started. True lasting change happens slowly – a fire must be tended mindfully so that it can continue to burn without becoming too intense. YOGA AT OHHHMMM VIRTUAL SCHEDULE: MONDAY: 5/23/2022

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” As we enter a new year, take some time to set your personal intentions. Pause to connect with yourself and remember you are already whole.
The journey of yoga is not about “fixing” ourselves, but rather one of reconnecting with our inherently exquisite selves — our wholeness. Practice setting intentions. A definition of intention is defined as “a determination to act in a certain way: resolve. What one intends to do or bring about.” But also as “a process or manner of healing of wounds.” This is at the heart of yoga and meditation practices; we are learning that we always have a choice about how we step into the moment. Pause to connect with yourself and remember you are already whole - grace, strength, joy and wholeness is always within. Set a tone for 2022... commit to intentions in your daily practice. And then, may you do it again and again…all year round. YELP REVIEWS... Yogis, we would love it if you can leave us a review on our official YELP page CLICK HERE. Been a member for awhile? NAMASTE, Victor Cotto www.YogaWithVictor.com Instagram: CottoVic Facebook: Yoga With Victor - Vicyasa™ "An attitude of gratitude brings great things." -- Yogi Bhajan The gratitude we embody during our yoga is mostly about our state of mind. It concerns making a conscious effort to incorporate thankfulness into lifestyle. This can be done in a variety of ways: through setting an intention at the beginning of the day, before you begin your practice, or as part of your meditation.
If we remind ourselves to be grateful for what we do have, we lose the negative impressions that often take up our head uninvited. By selecting a tone of thankfulness, that fear, sadness, anxiety, and even anger gets pushed aside and our gratitude makes room for strength, happiness, confidence, and peace. The term gratitude yoga is not limited to the mat. We all can demonstrate appreciation through all areas of our life. Let’s begin with the one day of the year that speaks to gratitude more than any other holiday out there,...Thanksgiving. NAMASTE, Victor Cotto www.YogaWithVictor.com Instagram: CottoVic Facebook: Yoga With Victor - Vicyasa™ “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.” Introspection, self-study, also known as Svadhyaya, is a foundational practice of yoga. One of the most powerful things you can do is to know yourself -- to deeply reflect on your true essence and harness its power.
We all self-study when we practice asana (poses); we identify how we move our bodies in space, we adjust and react to our movements and breathing and create order through our ability to study - not judge. And being able to enhance our asana practice and develop a healthy condition into our body is to move with complete understanding which is achieved through study. But there are many other ways to practice Svadhyaya:
