“When you give yourself permission to communicate what matters to you in every situation you will have peace despite rejection or disapproval. Putting a voice to your soul helps you to let go of the negative energy of fear and regret.” To reap the benefits of a yoga practice, we must practice only for ourselves and no one else. Each of us needs something distinct from our yoga practice because each yogi’s body & mind is unique. Some of us are more lengthier. Some of us are blessed with strong arms. Some of us have a history of dance or athletics with an innate sense of balance. But no two of us have the same genetic composition. Nor do we have the same history; life experiences, injury background, childbirth, or conditioning, all which contribute to the individuality of our body and mind. And yet it is so easy to compare ourselves! When we compare our own practice to that of others we lose the personal connection to our body that is so integral to the practice of yoga. To get the most out of our practice, we need to be in touch with how our body is responding to each pose. This is called the mind-body connection. Only you can know your own body. You can listen to yourself in a way that no one else can -- not even your yoga teacher! You can enter a posture and notice if it creates undue tension in certain parts of your body. Then, you can adjust yourself to accomodate your needs. When we begin to listen to our bodies we realize that our needs are simply that: needs. They are no better or worse than anyone else’s. To create the most joy on and off our mats, we must embrace our individuality and look after the person we know best: ourselves. LOADS OF NEW ON-DEMAND CLASSES... One thing that we have noticed is that people have a hard time entertaining, inspiring and sitting with themselves—at home. The extravagant nature of life these days calls upon us to save the world, figure out the secrets of the universe and the existential meaning of the Self. What if it was so much more simple than the pressure of having to figure it all out, but rather learn to savor exactly what you already have, count the small blessings along the way and honor the achievements that you have accomplished up until this point. We must cherish the space in between, such as the pause in the breath, honey bees in white clover, reflection on the river, and listen for the moment for grace to truly reveal itself. Grace is the blessing, abundance and revelation that reveals itself without force or trying so hard. We ask you to consider changing the focus from always doing and becoming into just being. This means being who you are unapologetically and letting others be themselves as well—without the constant need to fix, correct or interject all the time. Learn to listen, so that your voice may truly be heard and keep it simple so that life will reveal itself at a pace that does not feel so rushed, congested and confined. Keep it simple and you may find there is a secret in the simplicity that calls upon the pause so that you can gather yourself for a worthy cause or your next adventure. ELINOR & LEANNE & DEMETRA... We’re slaying into 2023 -- being present and savoring our moments, basking in our glory & illuminating and uplifting others with our state of being. Whatever your goals and desires to live your best life are, a consistent yoga and meditation practice will help you set clear intentions and help you identify your personal life vision.
Give yourself time and space to contemplate your desires. Connect with your heart. Get into a state of flow with heart-brain coherence. Allow yourself to think big. And most importantly … Set an intention! The power of your intention and your consistent diligence cannot be underestimated. Setting an intention for yourself each day as a part of your morning routine will raise your vibrations to attract more love and positivity and inspire you to channel that positive energy into action. Intention setting is a loving commitment to oneself that joins the heart and mind on a journey to one’s highest calling. Simply put, it is to clearly state what you want to experience and achieve through your actions. Setting an intention can be done in all aspects of your life, from relationships and personal life to your work life. Spend some quiet time and reflect on the experiences, relationships, the feelings, the things that you wish to experience in your life. Take some time to feel the emotions you may feel when you experience your intentions in your life. From there, write down the intentions you want to set. Then, spend time thinking about how having these intentions come into your reality will feel, what does it look like, feel like, what will you be doing? Get as vivid and clear as you can in these steps as feeling the emotions will activate the intentions and allow for them to flow easily to you. Your thoughts that turn into emotions, which inspire actions, are all used to manifest your intentions. Intention Setting Examples:
At Vicyasa™, we support our community in harnessing the power of intention to infuse the mind, body, and spirit with confidence, positivity, and a boost of well-being. ELINOR & LEANNE & DEMETRA... Check out her Instagram HERE and her amazingly empowering advanced & intermediate sessions on our on-demand archives.)
The start of each new year brings with it a sense of anticipation. Excitement for what’s to come blends with releasing what was. Toss in fear of the unknown and the period of time surrounding the new year can be daunting. 2023 is upon us; it has arrived with all of its new energy glory. As we embrace the gifts that are bound to come, equally important is to remember what 2022 taught us. The lessons we learned throughout that time walk with us as we forge ahead. New year, new you? You’ve probably heard the saying hundreds of times, but does it have to be so?The niyama Svadhyaya teaches us the importance of self-study and inner exploration. When we practice Svadhyaya, we take an inventory of the work we have done on ourselves thus far and use it as information for growth. Rather than abandon the old, we build off it to create abundance. Consider this time as an invitation to step into a life of fullness. How can you use the foundational elements to build something beautiful for yourself? Perhaps that means opening yourself up to experimenting with different experiences. Try out a new yoga class, take a different teacher, explore a new pose, use a new playlist during your solo practice, or even place your mat in a new spot in the studio. Embracing newness doesn’t mean abandoning the old. Instead, it’s about adding to what works and trusting yourself enough to know that you will land on your own two feet. No matter what happens, the mat will always be there to catch you. The year may be new, the outlook may be fresh, but the yoga will always be everlasting. ELINOR & LEANNE & DEMETRA... OH MY!
