“There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow; so today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live.” As we enter a new year, take some time to set your personal intentions. Pause to connect with yourself and remember you are already whole. The journey of yoga is not about “fixing” ourselves, but rather one of reconnecting with our inherently exquisite selves — our wholeness. Practice setting intentions. A definition of intention is defined as “a determination to act in a certain way: resolve. What one intends to do or bring about.” But also as “a process or manner of healing of wounds.” This is at the heart of yoga and meditation practices; we are learning that we always have a choice about how we step into the moment. Pause to connect with yourself and remember you are already whole - grace, strength, joy and wholeness is always within. Set a tone for 2023... commit to intentions in your daily practice. And then, may you do it again and again…all year round. YELP REVIEWS... LULULEMON PRIZES Yogis, we would love it if you can leave us a review on our official YELP page CLICK HERE. Whether it's Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Bodhi Day or any other festival that honors this season, they all recognize the importance of LIGHT and the divinity within all of us and how we all can spread the light of love, joy and inspiration. Thank you for trusting us to share heartfelt opportunities for you to become more familiar with your mind/body structure and function as understood in both Western and Eastern cultures. We love helping you refine and supplement your mental tool kit with breath and movement practices and meditations to help you deal with stress, sleep better, get stronger, develop confidence, and become more deeply intimate with yourself. We hope you have a peaceful holiday season practicing the rituals and traditions that bring you joy, and we look forward to celebrating presence with you all in class. Each time I step onto my mat I learn how I can continue to love myself and therefore love and serve my students in the most authentic way possible. I challenge all of you reading this to do the same. See where you can apply what you have been working on on your mat to the world around you. How can you dig deeper? Where can you allow yourself grace? When do you need to take a deep breath? How can you be more present so that you can truly fill the space you are in? With love and gratitude, TeamVicyasa™ ELINOR & LEANNE... You can share this gift with everyone you come in contact with over this period. It will cost you nothing and it will make a huge difference because smiles are contagious. Many people struggle over this period and showing some appreciation for them with a smile or a word of thanks is not difficult. Remember the first of the Yamas is Ahimsa - non-harmful behavior - so when you smile at someone you are practicing yoga. When you thank the shop attendant, you are practicing yoga. When you let someone into your lane of traffic on a busy motorway, you are practicing yoga. There are lots of small and simple things we can do that we don’t associate with our yoga practice, because we only think about it as what we do on the mat that are part of the 8 limbs of Ashtanga Yoga. These practices are more important than our asana practice because they govern how we interact with the world around us and the people in it. So remember, Christmas is a time of celebration and a time of giving. Be compassionate. Be nice to others and to yourself. Don’t beat yourself up if you skip the odd practice, or just do a really short practice [we have loads of on-demand options of varying durations to serve your physical needs]. Actively look for ways to say thank you in your life and in your yoga practice. One easy way to practice this is to look for moments in your practice to silently give thanks for your space, health and abundance in your life. When you start to infuse your yoga practice with gratitude, you will no doubt find many other ways to incorporate gratefulness into the rest of your life. We’d love to hear about your experiences with combining yoga and gratitude—please share with us. ELINOR & LEANNE... PAYMENT: VENMO -- @Vicyasa Paypal -- [email protected] NAMASTE, Victor Cotto www.YogaWithVictor.com Instagram: CottoVic Facebook: Yoga With Victor - Vicyasa™ “We have perceptions about our experience, and we judge them: “This is good.” “This is bad.” “This is neutral…” Then we have responses: fear, frustration, anger. We realize that these are just different aspects of the mind. They are not the actual reality.” – Dalai Lama Brahmacharya is the fourth Yama and as explained by Patanjali’s yoga Sutras, this yogic principle of detaching from the small things in life to connect with the infinite yields enormous strength and energy. The literal translation of brahmacharya is “moving into infinity”; “Brahma” means infinity, the Absolute, or big; “charya” means to move or to walk, to live. Many times, it is taught as "celibacy" or moderation, but I like to think of it in a wider sense to keep the mind always engaged in thoughts of Brahma or the supreme consciousness. Dedicated practice of asana, pranayama, and meditation creates a strong foundation for brahmacharya to grow. These practices increase awareness and relax the nervous system, reducing the susceptibility to excitability and arousal and enabling us to better control our responses. These also help to separate your emotions from your thoughts, releasing the control your emotions have over the autonomic nervous system, endocrine glands, and hormonal activities. In this state, our sensual impulses have far less control over us. Meditation also connects us to our true nature of boundless joy and bliss. Remaining in periods of silence on a regular basis can help purify our minds and spirits of any negative impressions. Culture your senses by refraining from meaningless extravagances that deplete your energy and distract your mind - it may excess drinking alcohol or overeating. When you decrease the amount of energy you spend on sensory indulgences and instead turn the mind inward (pratyahara), you replace your dependencies and transient cravings with the experience of inner joy and peace. For yogis seeking the highest potential of yoga, Brahmacharya gives us a chance to unleash our creative energy, to remain soaked in the divine presence, to move into infinity or supreme consciousness (brahman), and thus find a way to fulfill the greatest and finest desire of all—the desire to connect with the unchanging reality.
