“Yoga is spiritual because it’s personal. In its quiet moments there is a connection to something greater—whether it’s called grace, Spirit, God, or the Divine. It is up to each individual as to how deeply she or he is willing to connect to that presence.” Through our yoga, we become aware of our own divinity. We explore and practice accepting our individual and unique expression of the Divine, regardless how it’s manifesting in any one moment: joy, pain, laughing, crying, raw, messy, uncomfortable, beautiful, miraculous -- exquisite energy of our individuality and oneness.
This practice nourishes are well-being because you connect the true essence of the self. While we stretch, tighten and release during the poses, thoughts give way to the energy flowing from within -- the divine spirit in us. By just showing up, rolling out your mat, you've committed to experiencing a deeper connection and awareness to your true self. YOGA = UNION! This week we have Tanya Mgrdechian for some mat Pilates, Karen Hyland will rock two sessions, Erin Giordano fires it up twice and Josh Mathew-Meier holds space for us twice as well. In the coming weeks we'll have more teacher additions and an expanded weekend schedule. Subscribers, stay tuned to those inboxes for enrollment to our semi-private in-person HOT sessions. The consistency we create for ourselves for self-care will go a long way toward determining how happy or unhappy, and how vital or how depleted we are. How we focus our mental energies and choose self-health will impact our wellspring of health. Our essence shines when we connect our heart to our rhythms of day-to-day life and then we make wise choices based on the balance we create through our yoga practice and attention to mind/body wellness.
Practice yoga in everything, get out in nature, appreciate the people around you and let them love you—transcend calm on the mat, be kind and remember to restore the body, and rejuvenate post-class . We are all a lot more special and resilient than we realize. The practice of self-care just illuminates that. This week we have Karen twice, Erin twice and Josh twice. BARRE has been moved to 9am on Monday morning, so you early risers can get the heart-rate up & treat yourself to some low impact and high intensity work to slay the week. Jennifer Oviedo is back to lead us through a sweet 10-minute meditation to cap our Thursday evening session. Remember to leave us a review on YELP and we'll have a contest soon -- leave a review and you can win TWO weeks/Extension of UNLIMITED yoga. Love and light, Victor Erin Giordano is back this week for two classes; Wednesday at 6pm & Saturday morning at 9am. Her classes are sweat-inducing, work the entire body and her enthusiastic and energetic personality keeps you inspired throughout the 45-minute session!
FYI: Beginners to HIIT or any fitness classes are welcome! PROPS are not required, but hand weights and objects like blocks can be used to intensify, align and keep you working! Get to know Erin with part two of her 'Teacher Feature'... QUESTION: What are challenging poses for you? What pose are you looking to advance in? ERIN: "Probably would have to say Side Crow right now. I can get in it, but I find it super challenging to maintain for more than a couple of breaths." Q: How would you describe your classes? ERIN: "Challenging, but very inclusive. My goal is to make people sweat, feel the burn, and work hard, but also walk away feeling supported, energized, and accomplished!" Q: What have you missed the most from quarantine lockdown? ERIN: "I think what I've missed the most during quarantine is twofold: being in rehearsals with my dance company, having that physical human connection, and preparing for performances; and teaching fitness classes in real time with clients who made that hour a priority of their day, where we get to feed off the positive energy and hard work in the room (thank goodness for the online community!!!)" Q: Have you picked up hobbies/interests during lockdown? ERIN: "Oh my gosh, is it sad that cleaning has been a consistent 'interest' of mine during quarantine? Haha but for real, some new hobbies have been cooking, biking around New York, and dabbling in sudoku puzzles." Q: Do you like working out at night, or during the day? Time you like to practice? ERIN: "I love starting the day out with a solid workout! I'm not typically an 'early morning person' but I find that I feel so much more energized, grounded, and ready to tackle the day afterwards. An evening yoga practice can be such an awesome way to unwind at the end of the day. I love breathing deeply and stretching it out before bed." Q: Standing one-legged poses or arm balances? Why? ERIN: "LOVE standing one-legged poses - reminiscent of my dancing days! Also requires a lot of abdominal engagement and support to maintain balance on one leg, which is something I appreciate." Erin Giordano (IG: @eringio) Lets welcome the newest member of the team -- a professional dancer and fitness enthusiast, Erin's total body fitness classes are challenging with their insightful awareness on body mechanics and crafty sequencing. She had our community of strong yogis sweating and feeling invigorated during last weekend's fitness in the park session. Erin will get your heart pumping and your muscles firing with a fully body sculpting class. We’ll build heat and engage our abdominals, thighs, glutes, and upper body, leaving class feeling accomplished and energized. The use of Theraband, resistance ball, and a yoga block are all optional for her classes, but can be used to provide a challenge, create resistance and facilitate alignment for proper muscular engagement. BEGINNERS to her classes are welcome & her incredible cueing will create a safe and fun space for you to practice with or without props. Get to know Erin below: QUESTION: What is your favorite yoga pose/why?
ERIN: "Dancer's Pose :) And not just because of the name, but because I love the duality of reaching my limbs in opposite directions, finding stability on one leg, and accessing such a deep back stretch." Q: What is your least favorite pose right now/why? ERIN: "Humble Warrior - my hips are not a huge fan of Warrior 1 to begin with, and then add in a forward fold in the torso... UGH." Q: What lessons from the yoga mat have you applied off your mat? ERIN: "The realization that what you put into something is what you'll get out of it. Having a positive mindset, holding space for feelings of frustration and compassion with self, and really moving with intention are huge aspects to my practice on the mat that I try to carry into my life off the mat." Q: Do you have a guilty pleasure/binged watch anything etc., during quarantine? ERIN: "Oh my gosh, is it sad that cleaning has been a consistent "interest" of mine during quarantine? Haha but for real, some new hobbies have been cooking, biking around New York, and dabbling in sudoku puzzles." Q: What is your post-class meal craving? ERIN: "In the AM, oat milk matcha latte and PB banana toast; in the evening, veggie burger followed by Van Leeuwen ice cream ;)" Erin's debut class on the platform will be this Saturday at 9am! VENMO -- @Vicyasa Paypal -- Victor@YogawithVictor.com The team thanks you all for the support! NAMASTE, Victor Cotto www.YogaWithVictor.com Instagram: CottoVic Facebook: Yoga With Victor - Vicyasa™ Over the coming days, we'll have more fitness classes on our platform and to prepare for these classes, here's a quick "what can you expect?" introduction to these different disciplines.
MAT PILATES A strengthening and lengthening form of exercise that focuses on your abdominal muscles while also training your arms and legs. In this class, you hold movements like planks, side planks, and core exercises to build your muscles and core strength. Much of the equipment that you find in a reformer class can also be used in a pilates mat workout. Your instructor will give you options to use bands, exercise balls, and sometimes even small weights to help level-up your pilates experience. Tanya is an expert in giving you modifications and what things you can use around the home to replace the props commonly used to accentuate the poses and aide your form for proper engagement of muscles being targeted. With pilates, micro-adjusting your movements could be the difference between targeting the right muscles and injury. Our instructors will be there to help you find ways to modify each exercise to fit your needs, whether you’re new to the practice or have been practicing pilates for years. HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) In this training technique, you give all-out effort through quick, intense bursts of exercises, followed by short, sometimes active, recovery periods. This type of training gets and keeps your heart rate up and burns more fat in less time. Many poses or intervals will be in familiar yoga-like poses where there's addition to cardio and repetitive active range of motion exercises to help you build heat and strengthen and tone up your muscles. BARRE Barre is a style of exercise inspired by ballet, but also shares similarities with Yoga and Pilates. During the session, the instructor guides students strength and endurance exercises using your own body weight and light hand weights. -- sometimes involving high-impact moves. Barre uses small, targeted movements to improve strength, muscle tone, and flexibility. This makes injuries less likely than when you’re doing other activities, such as weight training or cardio exercises, like running. Hand held weights are optional. SCULPT Sculpt is a muscular building class that targets physical endurance. The use of free weights, resistance bands, medicine & physio balls, and your own body weight to strengthen all major muscle groups is the design of the class. The focus is adding definition to your physique with higher reps and lower weight. These sculpt and tone workouts help improve your circulation, metabolism and caloric burn, further enhancing the shape and definition of your muscles. INSTRUCTORS Karen Hyland, Erin Giordano and Tanya Mgrdechian will guide you through these sessions with expertly crafted sequencing to help you practice safely at home. Check out Tanya's debut class this Thursday and Erin on Saturday. REST OF YOGA AT OHMMMM SCHEDULE:(Outdoor Classes/Events for active subscribers) TUESDAY -- 10/27/2020 5:00 pm -- 45 min.
