Yoga at OHM Schedule w/ Victor 2/28 - 3/6/2022: Demystify what it is to practice #GetFlowing2/25/2022 “True meditation is about being fully present with everything that is including discomfort and challenges. It is not an escape from life.” ― Craig Hamilton Meditation, like yoga, is a highly personal and intimate practice. Once you've developed a routine that works for you, chances are that you'll continue to hone that practice until you notice its benefits permeating all facets of your life.
There is no one way to "do it right," and we need to scrap the myths and misconceptions about meditation & yoga practice that may present a challenge from progressing with a healthy schedule to invite it into your life. THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO MEDITATE! FALSE! Whether it's a mantra meditation (chanting, repetitive rhythmic verbal or internal reciting of inspiring words) , a walking meditation, creative meditation (imagining and strengthening positive aspects of the mind)... pick the one that speaks to you! ONLY AN EMPTY MIND IS NEEDED TO MEDITATE. When the mind is jumping from thought to thought during our practice, this is an opportunity to train the mind so as not to become absorbed in those thoughts. Taking note of your thoughts and the emotions that accompany them is also a part of the meditation process.Meditating is very much an observation. Whether you’re focusing on a mantra or something in your environment, meditation is an opportunity to observe the thoughts that move through your mind and your body, without becoming attached to them. If there is ever a time when your mind is "clear," it might be the space between one thought and the next. YOU HAVE TO SIT FOR HOUR FOR THE MEDITATION TO "WORK" It is admirable and even enviable when people get into total absorption for hours. In actuality though, meditation does not have to consume too much time. Just as there are many styles of meditation, there are many ways to fit it into your daily life. Preparation for practice is equally important, and knowing how much time you can commit to mediation is vital in setting goals to get yourself intune with yourself. You'll get the most out of your practice by turning it into a habit... regardless of the duration. * Just remember, any Meditation or yoga practice —in any form— requires the practitioner’s sincerity, and thus will involve some study on your part. The practice lasts a lifetime. May it always remind us that you’re always exactly where you need to be. YOGA AT OHHHMMM VIRTUAL SCHEDULE: MONDAY: 2/28/2022

“Yoga teaches us to cure what need not be endured and endure what cannot be cured.” When we talk about yoga, often we reference the physiological benefits of the practice such as increased strength, flexibility and relaxation. However, not enough is mentioned about the mental, psychological, and cognitive benefits of a yoga practice. Many studies have shown that a consistent yoga practice is helpful in reducing anxiety and depression as well as some forms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in addition to reducing stress and relieving insomnia.
Benefits of a regular yoga practice: Calms the mind: Focusing on your movements and your breathing can aid in minimizing excess “noise” in your head and help you achieve clarity over what is truly troubling you. Tune into your body: Increasing your awareness of your physical self can sometimes clue you in to emotions that you might not have recognized otherwise. Relaxation: Breathing control has been shown to reduce the levels of stress hormone in your bloodstream. Thus, yoga can help you relax and reduce stress so you can think more clearly. Distress Tolerance: Whether it’s holding a difficult posture, or flowing through your asanas, the principles of the practice teach us to lean into the discomfort. Yoga practice shows us how not to be afraid of discomfort and helps us gain confidence within ourselves that we can tolerate the distress by breathing, maintaining balance and being present in the moment at hand. Freedom in routine. Confidence through self-control. Energy within and energy without.” – Ymber Delecto Practicing yoga - especially in the morning - is a powerful way to take charge of your day with a clear, thoughtful, and activated intention. Your morning practice is “the difference between leading the day rather than letting it lead you," says Alexandra DeSiato, coauthor of 'Teaching Yoga Beyond the Poses.'
We actively choose the theme of the day with an AM practice, being intentional, focused, present, and in the moment... and giving us a frame of reference to reflect on for future happenings of the day. Also, understand your personal energy rhythm. Pay attention to what time of the day feels the best for your yoga; whether it's movement or meditation. Honor those rhythms by scheduling your day accordingly. It is an incredibly satisfying sweaty surrender and a meditative experience. The ideal pace to perform a Vinyasa is the natural pace of our breath: not intentionally slower pace or a puffed, overly drained breath. Vinyasa is when we move naturally, inhaling into one shape and exhaling into another.
One of the many reasons we love it so much is that flowing through a sequence for a while can feel very meditative. When we transition to one posture on our inhale and straight away to another on the next exhale, we leave no room for external thoughts and we are completely within our own mind-body flow state. This is, for me, one of the most satisfying parts of my practice. I can land in the moment and make every moment in class a glorious moment. And that complete immersion into your body, the profound awareness... It's meditative. It's yoga! YOGA AT OHHHMMM VIRTUAL SCHEDULE: MONDAY: 2/7/2022
