Yes -- we'll set-up again in Long Island City and Manhattan for scheduled classes. Enrollment emails will go out to active subscribers and spots will be limited, as we'll fill the classes first come first serve. “Yoga is the process of eliminating pain – pain from the body, mind and the society.” Choosing happiness from the moment you wake up, rather than feeling that it is something that you have to accomplish will change your outlook daily.
Choosing happiness requires us to be present. We can either choose to lose ourselves in fear, anger, or even despair, OR we can decide to think positively and attract all of that wonderful positivity back into our lives and practice gratitude instead. The peace and happiness we access on our mats is no accident. It's not just an exercise-induced dopamine high; yoga goes deeper than that. The mind-body connection created in yoga facilitates change at a cellular level. When we weave positive intention into our movements, we are imprinting these thoughts, not only on our minds, but also on our bodies. We are effecting change on our mat that will allow for change off our mat. Much of our unhappiness comes from our thoughts or feelings because we judge our experiences in terms of good or bad. Not only does a full practice of yoga and meditation gently remove these self-judgments, but with time, it can begin to reshape our attitudes, views, and thoughts. Maybe I spent an hour practicing asana and meditation, but there is no difference at all when I am not doing asana and meditation practice in the other hours.
I am practicing yoga when I am walking, when I am eating, when I am listening to music, when I am doing laundry. Being in the present moment, accepting the reality of the present moment now as it is, from moment to moment. Many times I wanted to do something but it was not possible at that moment, and so, we had to try again some other time. There were other times that I didn’t plan to do anything special, but things happened accordingly and we ended up doing something unexpectedly. And that is enjoying every moment of it. #Yoga There is nothing wrong exploring “what's next” with the perception of the present moment and what I think that is going to be, and at the same time, allowing the reality to be what it is even though it is not what we thought it could be. Rather, it is a philosophy and a system of practice for living. Asanas [poses] do not eliminate challenges and problems we encounter day-to-day, but rather teaches the practitioner how to maintain equanimity and live peacefully through life’s inevitable challenges.
Being in a pose, flowing through a practice and the challenging components of the exercises of Yoga teaches strength, perseverance, and contentment within difficult times, and to release attachment from goals or outcomes. It is an element of practice for the yogi to face these challenges rather than to avoid them. Ultimately, finding your true self on the mat and meeting yourself at your best and worst daily will build perseverance. The journey is never an easy one, filled with challenges as we discover ourselves. Challenges shouldn’t be viewed as negatives, but rather as integral stepping stones on the path of yoga.
